Nextiva vs Vonage Comparison

It’s never easy to decide which virtual phone system to get as not only are pricing structures quite complex, but most providers offer similar features. So, it’s no surprise that a little help is needed when choosing between two excellent VoIP solutions like Nextiva and Vonage. They both provide all the features you could ask for and even go a step further by offering built-in team messaging, web conferencing, and unlimited calling within the U.S. However, while one is better suited for big companies, the other is more advantageous to smaller teams. So, which one should you get?

Nextiva

Nextiva logoNextiva is a comprehensive virtual phone system that covers all the basics and offers some advanced features, such as virtual fax support, peer-to-peer video calling, unlimited business SMS, and team messaging. From setting up a comprehensive IVR system to transferring and tagging calls, you can do almost anything with Nextiva.

Additionally, the company offers one free local or toll-free phone number per user. While the former comes with unlimited calling within the U.S. and Canada, the latter provides a monthly allowance depending on the subscription you get. Finally, to make up for anything that the platform may lack, Nextiva supports over 15 third-party integrations, which you can easily set up through the user-friendly dashboard.

Nextiva’s price depends on the number of users required. This means that the lowest price – $19.95 per month per user – is only for accounts with over 100 users. Meanwhile, small businesses with around 10 employees will have to pay $25.95 per user per month for the most basic subscription (and only if they commit to a 3-year contract). This can be a dealbreaker for many, especially when features like unlimited business SMS and peer-to-peer video calling are locked behind the more expensive plans.

Vonage

Vonage logoVonage is mostly known for its advanced yet affordable residential VoIP solution. But that doesn’t mean the software isn’t a powerhouse for businesses as well. Right off the bat, the company offers over 40 features that range from basic call handling tools to advanced multi-level auto attendant and unlimited calling within the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

Moreover, regardless of the subscription you opt for, you can count on a unified platform, where you can take advantage of unlimited team messaging, SMS automation, and integrations with over 20 apps. Despite this, there are a few worthwhile features only available in the more expensive plans. For example, the middle-tier subscription – Premium – allows you to make unlimited video calls with up to 100 attendees. Meanwhile, group calls and call recording are only accessible to advanced subscribers.

Prices start at $19.99 per month per user, but there’s a catch. First of all, the company doesn’t provide free phone numbers. This means that you’ll have to pay for each phone number you get – either local for $9.99 per month or toll-free for $39.99 per month. Secondly, the entry subscription only works on mobile. Although this is fine for remote teams and on-the-go professionals, it’s far from perfect. In order to use Vonage on your desktop or VoIP desk phones, you’ll have to upgrade to Premium, which costs $24.99 per month per user. Fortunately, all subscriptions come with a generous 14-day free trial for you to test everything out with no strings attached.

Conclusion

There’s no doubt that you’ll be in capable hands regardless of whether you get Nextiva or Vonage. Both companies provide a comprehensive set of features, and you’ll be able to do anything you want with your phone system. This means that the deciding factor between the two is their price. For example, suppose you want to get a VoIP solution for ten users. While Nextiva would charge you $259.90 per month and make you prepay for three years of service, Vonage would be $50 cheaper without asking you to commit to an extensive contract.

On the other hand, since Vonage doesn’t offer free phone numbers, it becomes far more costly than Nextiva in situations where a toll-free number or a dedicated local number for all users is necessary. Finally, it’s crucial to consider that Vonage's most basic plan only offers access to its mobile apps, while Nextiva lets you use it everywhere you want.
